This is why 80% of resolutions fail. Tips to overcome the failure

Happy New Year Buddies.

Wish you'll a very happy new year.

Whenever we wish someone happy new year, we never forget to ask their new year's resolution
Right?

Why do we make new near resolution?

The month January was named after the roman god Janus who had two faces one looking the future and the other looking to the past

And hence we do parties on 31st of December and despise and let go our mistakes.

Looking forward for a brand new journey, make resolutions on 1st January for a better future.

According to a research made last year, 45% Americans said that they usually make resolutions, but only 8% of them actually follow them or stick to them by the end of the year.

Truly speaking, i fall in the category of 45%. But, what is the main reason of our failure?

1. Negative Resolutions.

Instead of quitting something we must build upon what we are good at.

Most of our resolutions are negatively focused, for eg. quit smokingquit alcoholquit bad habits etc.

We focus more on quitting or getting rid of something instead of building upon what we are good at.

' Quit Smoking ' seems very much easier to us, but when we actually practice the habit of quitting smoking, its actually very much difficult.
As once it becomes a habit. its too tough to overcome it.

Instead of getting rid of various things, we must try building and sharpening our other necessary skills.
For eg learning new languages, improving communication skills, reading books everyday.

2. Long-term Resolutions.

Long term resolutions cannot be achieved without a planning.

"We consider a marathon as a sprint"

This is one of the core reason for the failure of the resolutions. Long term resolutions without a planning is a wish.

Some of the long term resolutions goes, loose weight, read 3 books a month, do exercise everyday, score 90% above in finals.

And we expect a genie to come and fulfill it or wait for a miracle to happen.

Without a proper planning these wishes can never be fulfilled. Some people who are ambitious enough will take their resolution seriously, for sure but for only 2 months not more than that.
We will then give up very easily and everything will come to an end.

3. Illogical resolutions

A Resolution shouldn't be too ambitious to be achieved

Some people end up making vague or illogical resolutions.
Eating healthy food isn't a resolution, it's a habit, and habits are made from childhood.

Yes, doing exercise every alternate days is a resolution one can make on a new year.
We sometimes can't differentiate between habits and changes(resolutions).
"In order to achieve the big change we need to change small habits."

Let me make myself clear with an example, since loosing weight is the most common example, i'll go with that.

Loosing 5 kg weight is the resolution.
Avoiding junk as far as possible, doing exercise 3 weeks a day are the habits which will lead us to accomplish the goal.

Since many people can't differentiate between habits and resolutions 80% of new year resolutions fail

Then,

Should we make new year resolutions?

resolutions should always be made smartly

Yes, but smartly.

Some people think, making a change in your life is a very big thing to achieve and only people with a great willpower will be able to achieve it,
but, this is not true guys.

Let me share you some of my tips of making effective resolutions.

1. Set a goal that you want to achieve this year and write it down in the paper.

2. Make a proper plan of action to achieve that goal.

3. Make a to do list everyday and give 1 hour everyday to your resolution.

💡Tip : Always keep a reward for finishing a particular task. This way you will have a greed of finishing the task to achieve the reward.
